When artists create magic together: Fine art ballerina portraits created in our studio

It is incredibly inspiring to work with other artists!

The stunning ballerina in these images studies ballet at the Lincoln Center (NYC, Upper West Side) and has already performed in the Nutcracker and the Sleeping Beauty several times. Like all performers, her work and dedication to her art are very impressive, especially at only 11 years old.

I met Dasha a few years ago when we did a family photo session (and since then maternity and newborn sessions for her mother and baby sister.) I have been dreaming of photographing her dancing for a very long time. I have always had this idea of working with tulle, as a wink to a ballerina’s tutu, but to keep it loose, to let her move freely. It went far beyond my expectations. As she danced, she sometimes posed to let me freeze her in time. She posed with such finesse, such elegance; it really was a photographer’s dream. Her age fools you, but believe me, she posed intuitively to perfection.

Since this session merged different types of art (ballet and photography), I decided to let my mind edit freely. The photos ended up with a more artistic, whimsical style that represents our session together.

Her family brought wall art for their home, as well as for their aunts’ and grandmothers’.

And since I work only with the best printers and framers in the photography industry, in 20 years, she will be able to show her own children how beautifully she danced and how graceful she was. What an incredible gift it is to her and her own children (and grandchildren).
