When is the Best Time for a Maternity Photo Session? - By Aix-en-Provence Maternity and Pregnancy Photographer
As a Provence pregnancy and maternity photographer, it is a question that I am asked all the time!
As a general rule of thumb, maternity portrait sessions are usually done between 28 and 36 weeks (or seventh or eight months of pregnancy).
The belly has a nice round shape during this time frame and the expectant mom still feels comfortable enough for a portrait session.
Before 28 weeks, your baby bump will not be as visible. After 36 weeks, the belly starts to feel heavy and the idea of a session can seem tiring (baby will probably have started to move downward).
While this is an average, several factors may influence that time frame:
- If you’re looking to use your maternity photos for baby shower invitations, I recommend doing your maternity photo session as early as 27-28 weeks
- If you are expecting multiples, I recommend doing maternity photos during your second trimester. Your belly will appear bigger since you are carrying more than one but you will still feel comfortable
- If you have any pregnancy issues
- Your availability
If you realize that you want to do a pregnancy photo session when you are 38 weeks, we always try to accommodate the request when our schedule allows it. Ultimately, listening to your body and how it is changing is key and timing your maternity shoot accordingly is always the best option.
